Weihnachtseifer - Christmas dilligence

Ist es nicht so, dass man in der Vor-Weihnachtszeit seine eigentliche Freizeit mit vielen Dingen vertut die traditionell von uns erwartet werden, wobei man doch eigentlich ganz etwas anderes viel lieber täte? Wir versuchen es so stressfrei wie möglich anzugehen, aber es gelingt nur bedingt. Ok, Plätzchen backen ist eigentlich noch ganz ok einmal im Jahr. Und so habe ich auch gleich eine Gelegenheit meine kleine Etagere in Szene zu setzen.
Isn't it so that one wastes his precious free time for things which are traditionally expected by others when we would prefer to do other things? We try to stay stress-free but this goal is reached only half-way. Ok, baking cookies is ok once a year. At the same time I have the opportunity to show off my self-made etagere.

Altes Geschirr neu aufgemöbelt, mit leckeren Dingen darauf macht sich das doch ganz gut, oder? Die einzelnen Teile sind mit Zwei-Komponentenkleber verbunden, da rutscht nix mehr.
Old china for a new purpose, with Christmas goodies it looks quite nice, doesn't it? All parts have been glued together with two-component-glue, and it sticks well.

Genäht habe ich auch (tue ich zur Zeit eigentlich fast jeden zweiten Tag). Erstmal habe ich das Problem mit der Jacke bereinigt, also das Samtband vorne wieder abgetrennt, Formband untergebügelt und das Samtband wieder drangenäht. Das Ergebnis kann sich jetzt sehen lassen:
I sewed too (actually I do it every other day more less). At first I solved the problem with the jacket, I took of the velvet band, attached some form-band and sewed the velvet band back onto the jacket lining. The result is acceptable:

Der Vorderrand ist nicht mehr wellig (und an meiner doch etwas schlankeren Maus sieht es nochmal besser aus!). Ich bin schon stolz auf mein Werk, jetzt wo der Makel beseitigt ist.
The front doesn't bulge anymore (on my considerably slimmer baby-girl it looks even better!). I am proud of this finished task now that the blemish has been eliminated.

Dieses Teil hier habe ich in wenigen Stunden hinbekommen (et fluppt immer flotter!!):

Und jetzt noch das allerbeste: ich bin seit ca. 1 Woche stolzeste Besitzerin einer Overlockmaschine!!! Und seither habe ich meinem Mann eine Jacke und mir noch einen Pulli genäht ... innerhalb einer Woche. Das geht sowas von flott, ich bin absolut fasziniert! Fotos habe ich davon jetzt noch nicht gemacht, die Lichtverhältnisse sind nicht so toll und ich bin kein Fotograf aber die Tage werden ja jetzt wieder länger :-).
Now the best is yet to come: since one week I am the proudest owner of an Overlock Machine!!! And since I sewed a cardigan for my husband and a sweater for me ... within one week. It goes so much faster, I am absolutely fascinated! I haven't done any pics, the light conditions are bad and I am not a photographer ... but the days are getting longer from now on :-)

Schlechtes Wetter ist Nähwetter :-) Bad weather is sewing weather :-)

Das war ja mal ein Wetterchen ... dazu Unwetterwarnungen .... wie schööön wenn man zu Hause bleiben kann! Ich habe genäht! Freitagabends, Samstagabends (bis um 1 Uhr in der Frühe, Sonntag den ganzen Tag. Mein liebster Gatte weiß sich zu beschäftigen (ist das nicht herrrlich???)

We had some weather ... besides severe weather watch ... what a blessing if one can stay at home! I sewed! Friday night, Saturday night (up until 1am), Sunday all day. My dearest husband knew how to entertain himself (isn't that lovely???)

Nach diesem Nähmarathon sollte man meinen das es jetzt erstmal gut ist mit der Näherei. Sollte man? Ich merke langsam einen gewissen Suchtfaktor. Muss ich mir Sorgen machen? Ein paar Mal habe ich mich vergewissern müssen, ob Mann sich auch wirklich nicht vernachlässigt fühlt ... mir wurde versichert, dass alles so gut ist wie es ist und Mann schließlich schon groß ist und sich zu beschäftigen weiß.

After this sewing marathon one should think that now the hunger for sewing is quenched. Should one? I do sense a certain addiction. Do I need to worry? A few times I had to make sure that HE doesn't feel neglected ... I was assured all was fine an HEs a big boy who can handle it.

Walkrock aus der neuen Burda Style, Modell 109 wenn ich nicht irre. War total easy und wurde direkt am nächsten Tag angezogen. Sowas braucht das Ego und sofort stellt sich ein gewisser Größenwahn ein, Bilder von ganzen Ensembles ziehen an meinem inneren Auge vorbei ...

A wool skirt from a Burda pattern from Dec. 2012, pattern no.: 109 if I am not mistaken. Easy done and worn directly the next day. That's what an ego needs and immediately some kind of delusions of grandeur cross my mind, pictures of whole ensembles pass by my inner eye ...

Samstag ging es dann in die zweite Runde, allerdings habe ich hieran den ganzen Samstagabend und den gesamten Sonntag gedoktort. Ergebnis ... hm ... naja. So halb zufrieden aber mehr nicht. Das ist die erste "Jackie" von Farbenmix in meinem Nähdasein:

Saturday the secound round startet, however this wasn't done in a flash but took the whole Satureday evening and the whole Sunday. Result ... well ... well ...my opinion is biased, some went well some didn't. This is my first "Jackie" from Farbenmix of my live as a tailor:

Zufrieden bin ich mit Farben und Materialmix. Hat auch alles prima geklappt mit der Umsetzung des Schnittes. NUR das breite Samtband am Jackenrand ... also das geht garnicht so. Das wellt total und eignet sich offenbar nicht für solche Zwecke.

I am happy with the colors and mixed materials. All went well with the realisation of the pattern. BUT the velvet band surrounding the jacket .... well no, it's not working like this. It buckles and waves and doesn't seem to work for this purpose.

Jetzt ist so ein bisschen die Luft raus. Auftrennen ist sicherlich für niemanden eine tolle Aufgabe, aber es gehört wohl dazu. Erfahrungen sammeln nennt man das, naja. Wäre ja auch jetzt zu schön gewesen wenn das auf Anhieb funktioniert hätte. Ich melde mich zurück wenn ich das Teil verbessert habe.
A small demotivation is taking place at this moment. Unravelling is not my favorite task but surely belongs to sewing. One calls this getting experience, oh well. Would have been too good to believe if that would have worked from the start. I'll report back once I have enhanced this project.

Schnell ma ne Helma. A Helma quickie.

Ein schneller Blog für ein schnelles Projekt! Für meine liebe Kollegin habe ich in so ca. 2 oder 3 Stunden eine Helma genäht. Allerdings ohne den Balloneffekt:
A quick blog for a quick project! For my dear colleague I sewed in 2 or 3 hours a  Helma. However, it is without the balloon effect:

Das ging echt flott. Ich werde mir den jetzt auch nochmal für mich selbst machen. Die einzige kleine Schwierigkeit ist, das deutlich grössere Rockteil an den kleinen Bund zu bekommen. Da sind Stuhlbeine oder -lehnen sehr hilfreich, und natürlich ganz viele Nadeln. Wenn man ein Projekt in die Hose geht nicht gut klappt, dann ist Helma wie Therapie!

This was done in a wink of an eye. I will fix one more for myself soon. The only little difficultiy is to attach the larger skirt pattern to the much smaller flexible waist band. Chair legs or back rests can be helpful, and many needles of course. If a project is tanked turns out to be a flop, Helma is the right therapy!

Meine Nähmaschine hat mich wieder! Finally back to the sewing machine!

Nach langer Pause wieder da! Ich glaube ich bin ein Schlechtwetter-Blogger. Ab Frühjahr bis Spätherbst ist ja kein schlechtes Wetter mehr :-), aber jetzt ist es auch noch immer dunkel wenn ich nicht im Büro sitze, für mich die ideale Zeit für freischaffende Kreativität. Ich war nicht faul .... nur bloggen war einfach nicht drin. Also, hier ein paar Ergebnisse der letzten Wochen und Monate.

After a long break I am back again! I believe I am a bad-weather-blogger. From spring to late fall bad weather is inexistent :-), but now it is always dark when I am not working, an ideal time for me to create. I wasn't lazy ... but blogging was not on the plan. So here are some results of the last weeks and months.

Ich habe mein Nähzimmer eingerichtet und mir einen Zuschneidetisch gebastelt. Dafür habe ich beim Schweden eine große hohe Kommode gekauft und die Arbeitsfläche verbreitert. Ich muss unbedingt gut zu meinem Rücken sein, der macht sonst ganz schnell Zicken. Jetzt ist zuschneiden kein Thema mehr.

I furnished my sewing room and built a cutting table. For this I bought a chest at the swedish furniture warehouse and widened the working surface. I have to treat my back well, otherwise it will quickly cause problems. Now cutting my patterns is no obstacle any more.

 Ein Nähtisch und ein paar Regale sind dann auch noch gleich mitgekommen.

Im Frühjahr habe ich mir diese Tunika genäht:

Die fand ich gelungen und ich trage sie seither regelmäßig (was ich echt nicht von all' meinen Kreationen sagen kann). Jersey schreckt mich mittlerweile nicht mehr ab, je mehr ich damit mache desto sicherer werde ich, ohne Overlock-Maschine oder Coverlock-Maschine. Das passt zur Zeit nicht ins Budget ... leider. Aber geht ja auch so! :-)

I think it came out quite nice and I am wearing it since regularly (something I couldn't say about all my creations). Jersey doesn't scare me off anymore, the more I work with it the more confident I get, without an Overlock machine or a Coverlock machine. That does not fit into my budget ... unfortunately. But without it works too! :-)

Letzten Donnerstag habe ich dann auch das Knotenkleid aus der Knip 02/2011 genäht:

Das Geheimnis um den Knoten hat ja schon Gaby supertoll erklärt. Ohne dieses klasse Tutorial hätte ich mir sicherlich die Zähne daran ausgebissen! Ganz lieben Dank dafür!!! Wie man den Halsbeleg schön sauber dranbekommt hat mir aber meine Nählehrerin gezeigt. Und weil ich das ansonsten nirgendwo im Netz fand, habe ich jetzt auch mal ein klitzekleines Tutorial gemacht :-). Wie der Halsbeleg an das Rückenteil genäht wird muss ich ja wahrscheinlich nicht extra beschreiben (den Rest für viele wahrscheinlich auch nicht, aber der eine oder andere blutige Anfänger ist ja vielleicht doch froh ... inklusive mir selbst wenn ich das in nem halben Jahr mal wieder machen will ... habe ich bis dahin nämlich schon längst wieder vergessen). Also, ab da wo der Halsbeleg am Rückenteil ist:

The secret how to make the knot has already been explained exceptionally by Gaby. Without this wonderful tutorial this would have been a hard nut to crack! A great big THANK YOU for this!!! How to work the color lining was shown to me  by my sewing teacher. Since I couldn't find a tutorial anywhere in the net I would like to contribute one right here :-). How to sew the back lining onto the back pattern does not need to be described I suppose ?? (the rest probably neither for many of you but the bloody beginners amongst us maybe glad ... including myself when I want to do something like this again in about half a year ... by then I'll probably have all forgotten about this again). So this is from where the neck lining has been sewed to the back pattern:

For clarification: the rear lays with the wrong side up on this picture, the front shows the right side up.

Here both front and rear are pinned together WITHOUT the lining and without the seam allowance (see arrow). They stay untouched for now!

Bild 4: Ganz wichtig: das Vorderteil muss auf das Rückenteil Kante an Kante bis an den Beleg gesteckt werden (siehe Pfeile). Und jetzt kommt's:
Very important: the front has to be pinned to the rear edge-to-edge all the way up to the lining (see arrows). Now it comes:

Now sew till right before the lining (no further than that). Then:

... ok, now sew lining PLUS seam allowance onto the existing seam which already holds rear and front pattern. Well I really had to kind of think around the corner .... if you know what I mean.

Me Made letztes Wochenende

Es wird Frühling ... hach schööön! Ich habe Blumenzwiebeln in Töpfe gepflanzt ... selber!

Spring is coming ... what a joy! I planted bulbs ... myself!

Und für die lieben Kinder ... unsere sind ja längst erwachsen - also fast alle - eine personifizierte Aufbewahrung für die Zahnbürsten. Wenn man nur alle paar Wochen Besuch über Nacht bekommt, weiß man garnicht mehr welche von den Zahnbürsten denn jetzt von wem war ...

And for our dear children ... ours are long grown - at least most of them - individual containers for toothbrushes. When we get overnight visitors every ones in a while you often don't know anymore which toothbrush was for whom ....

 

 Ach ja ... und dann ist da noch mein Werk vom letzten Herbst, ein Kranz von Nusszweigen. Nach einem wunderschönen Tag in den belgischen Ardennen, vollbepackt mit Zweigen so lang, dass man den ganzen Wanderweg in der Breite ausfüllte und nur seitlich an entgegenkommenden Wanderern vorbeikam, habe ich den Kranz gebunden. Ich finde ihn schön ohne Schmuck, entgegen meiner Angewohnheit alles irgendwie zu bekringeln und behängen und weil er neben unserer Bank keinen Schmuck mehr braucht.

Oh yes ... then there is my work of last autumn, a wreath of Nutbranches. After a wonderful day in the belgian Ardennes, packed with branches so wide, we filled the whole breadth of the path and had to walk sideways to let other wanderers pass, I binded this wreath. I like it without decorations, contrary to my habit to fancy and pimp things and because next to our bench there is no need for more deco.

Römöööööö

Ich werde diesen Schnitt nicht leid! Wenn man "Römö Rock" googelt wird einem klar wie viele Römö's es gibt, und jedesmal wieder anders durch die unterschiedlichen Stoffe und Muster. Ist wirklich ein toller Schnitt!

I just don't get tired of this pattern! Put "Römö Rock" in the google machine and your will realize how many Römö's exist, and each time so different due to different fabrics and styles. What a nice pattern! 

Nähschule: Die erste Bluse meines Lebens

Liebe Eupener Nähschule, Dear sewing school of Eupen,

ich gebe zu, ich war nicht so begeistert, daß ich die ersten Abende auf Papier nähen musste ...  daß wir "auf Punkte" nähen (... das belgische System eben ... 10 Punkte auf 10 ist das Equivalent zur Note 1) ... ,daß man zum Schuljahresende tatsächlich Prüfungen hat (heh ... ich dachte ich sei aus dem Alter raus) ... daß es eben dauert, bis man ENDLICH mal was näht! Aber jetzt ist knapp ein halbes Schuljahr rum und hier ist jetzt die erste Bluse meines Nähdaseins!

I have to admit that I wasn't too pleased when I had to sew paper the first nights ... that we get grades for sewing (... the belgian system .. you know ... 10 points of 10 are the equivalent to a grade A) ..., that we indeed will have examinations at the end of the year (hey ... I thought I was way beyond that age) ... that it takes time until we really FINALLY sew something. Now fairly half a year passed and here it is: my very first blouse of my being a sewer!

Schnitt: Patrones Extra (keine Ahnung von welchem Jahr), Modell 12. Anleitung in Spanisch ... und wirklich kein leicht zu nähendes Teil, jedenfalls nicht für mich.

Das kalte Wetter ist zum Nähen ideal ...

Heute war Nähtag. Es ist eine Weile her, daß ich hier meine Kreationen präsentiert habe, was nicht heißt, daß nichts passiert. Manchmal finde ich die Dinge nicht sehr gelungen. Z.B. diese Jacke hier:

Today was sewing day. It's been a while since I presented creations of mine which doesn't mean that nothing happens. Sometimes I don't find the results very satisfying. For example this jacket right here:

Modell PELLWORM von Schnittreif.

Ok, es ist nicht ganz daneben gegangen, aber der Reißverschluß ist wellig  weil das Futter viel zu dick geworden ist und ich es irgendwie nicht anders hinbekommen habe. Gefüttert ist die Jacke übrigens wieder mit einem Recycle-Pulli aus dem Second-Hand-Shop.

Ok, it's not a total desaster but the zipper is bulky because the lining is way to thick and I couldn't do it any better. The lining by the way is a recycled pullover from the second hand shop.

Aber hier ist was ich HEUTE genäht habe:
But here is what I have done TODAY:

Mein erstes Vlieland Kleidchen. Ganz schön kniffelig, was aber nicht am Schnitt lag, sondern am Material. Ein Jersey der total schlabbrig und elastisch ist UND Streifenmuster!!! Ich bin bald WAHNSINNIG geworden, habe gereiht und gesteckt und mich Zentimeter für Zentimeter vorangetastet. So, und nun ist es vollbracht! Nur: es ist viel zu kalt um es morgen anzuziehen :-( also muss ich warten. Aber ich freu mich!

My first VLIELAND dress. Quite tricky, not due to the pattern but to the fabric. A jersey which was super strechy in all directions PLUS striped!!! I nearly went ballistic, stringing and pinning centimeter by centimeter to the final destination. Well, it's done! Only: it's too cold out to wear it :-( so I have to wait. But I am eager!

Recycling: Rock

Aus einer alten Sweatshirt-Jacke (Ulla Poppken = viiiel Stoff) wird ein Rock
Made from an old sweatshirt-jacket (Ulla Poppken = loooots of fabric) results a skirt.

Hier die Jacke, dazu kam an Material noch 1/2 Meter Feincord und ein Reißverschluss. Die restlichen Zutaten hatte ich noch in meinem Fundus.


This is the jacket, the material added was 1/2 meter of fine corduroy and a zipper. The rest of the ingredients were still in my equipment.

Und ja (!), den Schnitt habe ich nicht zum letzten Mal verarbeitet :-). Supereinfach mit der Fotoanleitung! Ein dickes Kompliment an Anja!

And yes (!), this pattern has not been realized the last time :-). Very easy with photo tutorial! A big compliment to Anja!
